SORA SHOWCASe - 2AM
From the age of 18 to 21 I lived in Seoul, South Korea. I grew up most of my life in London, however after completing secondary school, I went to Korea to study Korean for the summer, which turned into a three year epic adventure and coming of age.
Studying at Yonsei University I lived on campus in the international students dormitories in a tiny box room, with all my friends and other international students also living down the hallways in similar tiny apartments.
It was whilst living at Yonsei that I met other half Koreans for the first time in my life, there ended up being a few of us, we had a natural affinity to be near each other and became somewhat of a 'clique'.
With the main student nightlife areas of Sinchon and Hongdae on our doorstep, every night we would go out to party starting in our area and then disappear into the underbelly of the Seoul nightlife.
Our group of half Koreans nicknamed ourselves '2AM', this piece is a homage to those endless nights out in Seoul, the energy of the city. The piece also dives into the culture around beauty ideals and wealth that has developed in South Korea.
